Mangrove hummingbirds

£200.00

Mangrove hummingbirds (Amazilia boucardi) rely on the sweet nectar from the Pacific

mangrove. This rare mangrove only exists in a handful of patchy forests from Nicaragua

to Ecuador. With a continually shrinking place to call home, the hummingbird is listed

as endangered. Its mangrove habitat is continuing to be destroyed for salt evaporation,

shrimp farming, charcoal production, and human habitation. Though cutting mangroves

is illegal in Costa Rica, the law is widely ignored. The painting depicts three mangrove

hummingbirds in flight around tea mangrove, where wind is brushing and breaking the

valuable few flowers.

Original oil painting on canvas 20.00 x 15.75”. Hand-signed and varnished.
