Attenborough's Hawkweed

£100.00

Beacons Hawkweed Hieracium breconicola is one of the rarest plants on the planet. This home-grown plant was found clinging to mountainous outcrops in the Brecon Beacons, and has been considered for naming in honour of Sir David Attenborough.

Prior to our species recovery project, the total world population comprised a single lonely plant. Following consultation with Kew who held plant seeds, they were taken out of cold storage and sent to a rare plants nursery. Plants began to be returned to the wild in 2021, establishing a larger and potentially self-sustainable population.

Original oil painting on paper 14.8x21.0 cm. Hand-signed, framed and varnished.
