A Butterfly’s Whisper
A Butterfly’s Whisper pays homage to the rare and resplendent butterfly, the California pipevine swallowtail (Battus philenor hirsuta) and the unwavering dedication of biologist Dr Tim Wong in its conservation. The rays of sunlight coming through the lush foliage, create a feeling of a dream in which a single person can make a difference in the conservation of an entire species.
The California pipevine swallowtail is a subspecies of the pipevine swallowtail that is only found in Northern California. Due to human development and loss of habitat, the species rapidly declined. However, in efforts to restore their numbers, the marine biologist Dr Wong created a butterfly heaven, planting their favourite nectar source - the California pipevine plant, in his backyard. From this initial group of 20 caterpillars, Wong's garden has blossomed into a sanctuary of transformation, where the whispers of nature's secrets echo through the air. Thousands of butterflies now grace its emerald embrace, a testament to the symphony of life we can all conduct in shaping the future of our fragile world.
